You know those moments when you realize you just have to do something?
That’s where I am right now.
With the government shutdown and the reduction of SNAP benefits, so many families in our community are suddenly unsure where their next meal will come from.
That thought alone hit me hard…
and I decided I couldn’t just sit on the sidelines.
So, here’s the plan:
I’ve got a moving truck, and I want to fill it. Completely. Every inch. With food donations that will go directly to people who need them most.
This is my first time organizing something like this — my Fill the Truck Food Drive — and honestly, I’m both excited and a little nervous.
But the goal is simple:
Raise at least $2,500 and/or (why not both?) see just how full we can get that truck!
When I started looking into where these donations would go, I learned a few things that stopped me in my tracks. The Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank…the place helping so many of our neighbors…provides nearly 31.5 million meals every year.
Can you believe that?
They partner with 285 food pantries, hot meal sites, and shelters across the area. And still…1 in 7 people right here in our community faces food insecurity. One in seven. That’s shocking, and honestly, it’s what lit the fire under me to get this moving (literally).
So, I’ve teamed up with two amazing local businesses to host collection days…and I’d love to see you there.
On Saturday, November 22nd, I’ll be parked at Rust Modern Home in Bath (854 Wye Road) from 11 AM to 1 PM.
Then, a few weeks later, you can catch me at Denim and Design in Hudson (219 N Main Street) on Saturday, December 13th, also from 11 AM to 1 PM.
Both events will have light refreshments and some yummy munchies (while they last — because you know snacks go fast when I’m around ). Come by, say hi, bring some canned goods, and let’s fill that truck together!
And because giving should feel good, literally.
Everyone who donates will be entered into a raffle for a 90-minute foot massage at RG Foot Spa.
You will have three chances to win, btw. I’ll be honest: I almost didn’t want to share that part because they are that good. Like, "please don’t make my favorite spa too busy" good. But hey, it’s for a great cause, so I’ll risk it!
If you can’t make it to either event, don’t worry. My truck will be unlocked at the back gate from November 17th through December 14th, (300 N Cleveland Massillon Road, Akron) so you can drop off nonperishable food anytime during that window.
I’ll be doing drop-offs throughout the month as the truck fills up…because I have a feeling we’re going to need to make a few trips!

This whole thing started as a small idea…just me and a truck…but I know that when a community comes together, incredible things happen. Every can of soup, every box of pasta, every dollar counts.
