RUST Modern Home

What's old is new again, thanks to the little gem that is RUST Modern Home in Bath, Ohio.

This spot, and it's sweeter than pie owner, Regan Boothe, is a blog feature I've been dying to do. I know you're all going to love her and her store just as much as I do.

Regan is a Texas transplant, brought to NE Ohio by her husband's career. She was keeping busy with her three kiddos, but as they were all in school, she had an itch to do a little something with her free time.

After a visit to The Bake Shop in Ghent, she noticed the vacant building next door and some wheels got to turning.

She and her best friend decided it would be the perfect spot to open up a store featuring vintage home goods.

Before you knew it, the idea was a reality and RUST was born.

Regan will tell you they made a few mistakes but learned from each of them and had so much fun along the way. They never ever anticipated the success this little shop would have and how well it would be embraced by the community. After the first year, her friend and partner, Jess Donaldson, exited the business, but on great terms and you'll still see her around the store.

For Regan, this is her happy place.

And she's over the moon that it has become that for so many others as well. You'll feel it the moment you approach the welcoming front porch of her shop, styled with unique finds.

The wares you'll find at RUST are varied and eclectic in the most delightful way. A true mix of eras and genres, the store has taken on a personality of its own. I've found some of the most perfect treasures there that you'll all get to see in The Aunt Granny.

A pair of bamboo chairs from the seventies with the original fabric cushions came into the shop and we both knew they were perfect for my project. I love the character and she loved that I appreciated them for what they were.

Vintage rugs, stoneware, and so many fun decorative items have been sourced from her store as well.

She truly has an eye for picking pieces that will bring a space to life, and she loves giving these pieces a second life of their own.

When it comes to picking, this is truly her passion.

She's never met a thrift store or estate sale that wasn't calling her name, but as the store has grown, she sifts through a lot of online auctions now. There is such a mass amount of merchandise that moves through the store it's become impossible to pick each piece in person, but you can tell each piece has a story.

She believes vintage has so much character and gets a little sentimental wondering about the story behind an item. This is very much a family business for her, and even her kids get involved, as she takes them to thrift stores and makes a game out of hunting for the most RUST items they can find.

The other family member you're guaranteed to see at the shop is her mom, Donna Perkins, who relocated here to be part of all the fun. Regan credits her as being the most organized and that allows Regan plenty of time to do what she does best - stock the shelves, tables, and walls in this space with the most unique pieces for you to come in and buy.

Her vintage barware is unbelievable, as are her ever-changing collections of rugs and artwork.

Brass decorative items can be found scattered throughout the store, from bookends to trinket boxes to unicorns.

There is a whole shelf of wood-wick candles in the most fun and ah-ma-zing scents with super cute little mini matchboxes, too.

Couches, baskets, old steamer trunks, mirrors, and more grace each corner of the shop, and you truly never know what you'll find here on any given day. (Which obviously means you should stop in regularly.)

Her favorite and most unique piece?

An old (duh) industrial typesetter cabinet with brass and steel accents that she turned into a bookshelf of sorts. It was hard to part with and sold way too fast, but that's the business. Local buyers can't wait to add these unusual pieces to their homes.

Buying from RUST allows you to take something old and use it in a modern way.

It gives you something with a story, with character, that is truly yours. Regan is passionate about helping you find your style as opposed to simply following current trends and we love everything about this. Almost as much as we love the next treasure we're going to bring home from her shop.

Now go find it!!
