A Tudor Tutorial

You’ve probably heard of Tudor-style houses.

You’ve DEFINITELY seen Tudors.

There may even be one, I don’t know…two-doors away?

(Sorry.)

But here’s what you DIDN’T know or notice about these upscale, regal beauties!

America has gotten a whole lot more than crepes, IKEA, and The Beatles from Europe.

And Crocs, but I refuse to thank anyone for those.

So many of our home styles came over with our European ancestors, immigrating and bringing their architectural style along with them! Lucky for us!

NOT among the modest, folksy-home styles is the grand Tudor.

Generally grand in every way. Like, every…single…way.

Size.

Roof pitch.

Multiple adorned chimneys.

Clusters of metal-framed leaded windows.

Unique, asymmetrical facades.

And impressive doorways!

Show-offs? Totally!

If they coulda taken selfies, they definitely would have.

Because they’re a house with a “tude”!

A Tudor-tude.

(Sorry. It’s just too easy!)

But how gorgeous are these babies?

The Tudor-building heyday was in the 1920s giving them the nickname, “Stockbroker’s Tudor” because the booming economy was making many lucky folks very rich, very quickly.

And they wanted to show it off!

Commonly Tudors had a brick base on the first floor, and the classic stucco above, with the decorative half-timbering we all recognize as classic Tudor.

The Depression and rise of less costly, quicker builds put Tudors out of fashion, but only in the sense that they weren’t really building more.

The popularity of the posh style remains a staple in upscale neighborhoods to this day!

So, you’ve been tutored on the Tudor.
You’ve been Tudored.

(Aaagh! I can’t stop!)
